As we mature we recognize that loss is inevitable, and grief is a natural part of the healing process. There are many reasons for grieving. Dealing with a significant loss can be one of the most difficult times in a person's life. Many associate grief and loss only with dying and this too, will be addressed through this lecture. However, there are many different kinds of losses. Strong feelings of grief often accompany a loss even when not expected. These can include: Loss of a close friend, serious illness of a loved one, relationship breakup. Subtle or less obvious losses can also cause strong feelings of grief, such as: leaving home, illness/loss of health, death of a pet, change of job, moving to a new home, even Graduation from school. The causes are legion, and there is no way to prepare. Learn normal grief reactions. Recognize grief as a process of healing Examines the cultures, rituals, and ceremonies associated with grieving. This lecture period will provide answers you need in learning to cope with grief. Dr. Grace Hargraves is a Licensed Clinical Profession Counselor at Creekside Counseling.
