Dr. Janet O. Allen is the Clinical Director of Creekside Counseling in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She has been practicing in the field of mental health since 1989, during which time she has gained considerable experience in a variety of areas. She specializes in the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, grief and loss, trauma recovery and process addictions (eating disorders and sex addiction namely). In addition, she enjoys couples counseling and group therapy.

She is a trained mediator and enjoys conducting seminars and workshops for area businesses addressing topics including the following: team building, conflict resolution, assertiveness training, leadership development and effective communication.

Janet also has extensive experience with public speaking and program development. She styles her presentations to meet the specific needs of her audience. Those in attendance find her presentations to be engaging, instructive and motivational. Janet’s energy and warmth make her workshops and seminars a pleasure to attend.

Dr. Hargraves has been working in the field of mental health since 1974, beginning with her service in the United States Navy as a Neuropsychiatric Technician administering psychological testing to repatriated prisoners of the Vietnam war.

Gracie has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education. In 1994, Gracie completed her Master’s Degree in Community Counseling from Idaho State University, and opened Rexburg Counseling and Psychological services with her husband, David Hargraves, Ph.D. She worked for several years running a successful private practice, counseling children, adolescents and adults.

Gracie earned her Doctor of Education degree in Counseling and Counselor Education, also at Idaho State University in 1996. Upon the successful completion of that degree, and following several more years in private practice, Gracie and her family moved to Pensacola, Florida. Gracie worked for the Department of the Navy in the field of family advocacy, particularly including domestic violence issues and both child physical abuse and neglect. Gracie returned to Idaho in the summer of 2004 to join Creekside Counseling.

Gracie’s areas of emphasis include depression and anxiety disorders, post traumatic stress disorder, trauma recovery, domestic violence, divorce recovery, conflict resolution, same sex orientation, binge eating disorder, and grief and loss issues. She works with couples to enhance their relationship and families to reunite and strengthen broken bonds. She easily establishes relationships with children and is committed to the work she does to enrich the quality of their lives and feelings. Gracie believes that individuals and families can successfully make positive changes as a result of insights and decisions which she respectfully has the opportunity to help facilitate. She is continually involved in specialized training in a variety of areas pertinent to mental health counseling and most recently completed specialized training in adolescent issues. In addition to individual counseling, Gracie has coordinated and facilitated groups centered around divorce recovery, eating disorders, self esteem and empowerment,domestic violence, grief and loss, and couples therapy. Another specialty area is recovery from childhood physical and/or sexual abuse.

Though Gracie's passion is counseling, she also loves to teach/train on a variety of subjects which include but are not limited to stress management, divorce recovery, depression and anxiety, child, adolescent and adult developmental issues, conflict resolution, domestic abuse, emotional eating, grief and loss issues and bettering one's marriage. She has created laughter in many an audience or classroom while she provides the necessary information. She has been an Adjunct Professor in the Women's Studies at Idaho State University in Gender and Domestic Violence. She has been involved in providing expert testimony in various subject areas and provides court testimony as requested by attorneys and other individuals.

Gracie has traveled to many parts of the world and has learned from the various cultures she has lived with and learned from. A highlight of her life was walking on the Great Wall of China. Currently, Dr. Hargraves resides in Idaho Falls, Idaho, with her husband. They are the proud parents of a daughter who is attending college in Florida.

LouAnn graduated from Idaho State University with a Masters Degree in Marital Couple and Family Counseling.  Originally from Utah, she has enjoyed living in Idaho since 1998.  She specializes in the treatment of couples and families, and also offers expertise in blended family counseling, parenting and divorce transition and recovery.

LouAnn enjoys working with children, adolescents and adults.  She has experience assisting individuals with depression, anxiety, grief and loss, eating disorders, domestic violence, addictions and trauma recovery.

LouAnn believes that optimal mental health and happiness is experienced as we build and nurture successful interpersonal relationships.  As a counselor her goal is to help couples and families communicate so that all are heard, understood and respected in an empathic environment that fosters healing and growth.

Kirsten is a life long resident of Southeast Idaho. She attended Utah State University and Brigham Young University, where she earned her Master’s of Education in Counseling Psychology. After graduating she began her career as a school counselor working with elementary, intermediate, and high school students. Kirsten then went to work for the state of Idaho’s Department of Juvenile Corrections serving first as a clinician and then as a clinical supervisor. She worked with adolescents to address a variety of mental health and legal issues. In 2000 Kirsten opened her private practice as well.

Kirsten has extensive experience working with children and adolescents and is skilled with both art and play therapy. She also works with adults and couples and addresses issues of depression, anxiety, defiance, low self-esteem, trauma recovery, and divorce recovery.

Kirsten holds a firm belief in the power people have to change behaviors, attitudes and beliefs. She sincerely values the opportunity to help others make lasting change that brings increased joy and happiness into their lives

Carrie Bean was raised in Southeast Idaho and is the oldest of eight children. She is a graduate of Idaho State University Department of Counseling.  With additional degrees in dental hygiene and health education she has been involved for over 25 years in helping individuals achieve optimal health and wellness. 

Carrie believes that mental health is directly connected to overall health and wellness.  Her approach to counseling stems from a foundational belief that happiness comes from a finding a balance in all areas of life.  She is a generalist and takes a strength based approach.  She specializes in depression, anxiety, grief and loss, career/employment changes, life-transitions, sexual identity/orientation, and self-esteem.

Her interests include spending time with her family and friends.  She enjoys hiking, climbing high peaks, backcountry snowboarding, running, tennis, and her favorite pastime is playing old-time/bluegrass music.
Dr. Hargraves is a native of Idaho, raised in Pocatello.  He received his bachelor's degree from Idaho State University, and master's and doctorate degrees from Brigham Young University.  He completed his internship in clinical psychology at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD, and his residency in medical psychology at the Oregon Health and Sciences University, Portland.  He has been a licensed psychologist since 1979.

Dr. Hargraves is a retired Navy psychologist.  While on active duty he worked in naval hospitals in Florida, Washington, California and Guam.  As a civilian psychologist, he was in private practice in Rexburg and Idaho Falls.  He later returned to work for the U.S. Navy in Florida and South Carolina, and for the U.S. Marine Corps in Japan.  Before returning again to Idaho Falls, he was director of the substance abuse rehabilitation program at the naval hospital in Pensacola, Florida.

A general practice clinical psychologist, Dr. Hargraves has extensive experience in psychological assessment and helping people with a wide variety of difficulties, especially drug and alcohol problems, post-traumatic stress, chronic pain management, and adjusting to changes in life.  His philosophy of treatment is based on positive psychology, his own life experiences, and many years helping people from all walks of life."

Shanna Neff, MSN, PMHNP-BC

Board-certified as a Family Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Shanna has joined Creekside to provide a full range of primary psychiatric care to patients of all ages.

Shanna obtained a Master of Science in Nursing degree from Gonzaga University. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral Science and has been a Registered Nurse for nearly ten years having earned an Associate’s degree in Nursing in 2002.  Shanna draws from a depth of professional and clinical experience including Neuroscience, Intensive Care, and Clinical Research to provide sound clinical care to her patients.

As a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Shanna is trained to assess, diagnose, and prescribe treatment to individuals, families, and groups, through various interventions including medication management and counseling. 

Shanna provides holistic care while collaborating with patients to assist them to become active participants in their mental health care. Shanna is now accepting new patients and looks forward to partnering with you on your journey to happiness and health. 

What is a PMHNP?
The abbreviation PMHNP stands for Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.  A PMHNP is an advanced practice registered nurse who has received additional education and training (a master or doctorate degree) in providing psychiatric and mental health care services.

What services does a PMHNP provide?
Obtain medical and psychiatric histories
Perform psychiatric assessment and physical examinations
Diagnose, treat, and manage psychiatric illnesses
Prescribe medications (if needed)
Conduct psychotherapy (counseling) for individuals, couples, families, and groups
Order and evaluate diagnostic laboratory work (such as blood work, urinalysis, ECG)
