Sex Addiction Counseling and Support Group Information

Sex addiction is epidemic in our society. It presents in various ways and can develop over the course of a life time. Sometimes sex addiction can seem to develop over night--depending on the circumstances. With the advent of the internet, people who may never have sought out sexually explicit material are now confronted with it in the privacy of their own home. Internet pornography is considered the ‘methamphetamine’ of sex addiction. A single exposure can trigger a dangerous and self destructive cycle of addiction. And because there is so much shame and secrecy involved, the behaviors of a sex addict often go undetected for years.

Sex addiction is a non-respecter of persons. It is found among men and women regardless of one’s age, education level, social status, marital status or religious affiliation. Sadly, exposure to pornography early in a child’s life often sets the ball in motion. Over time, the compulsion to act out intensifies and behaviors escalate. By the time a person is ready to seek help, the despair, isolation and accumulation of consequences is overwhelming.

Sex Addiction can manifest itself in the following ways: compulsive pornography use and masturbation; multiple affairs; fantasy; anonymous sex; phone sex; cyber sex; strip clubs and escort services (just to name a few).

Dr. Janet Allen offers a comprehensive treatment program for individuals and their family members who are impacted by the devastation of sex addiction. The following services are provided:

  • Individual counseling
  • Group Therapy: (emphasis on recovery materials authored by Patrick Carnes, Ph.D.)
  • SA and SAA 12 step groups: (held weekly)
  • Support group: weekly meeting for spouses and partners of sex addicts

Our message to addicts and their families is simple. “There is a road to recovery where lives and families can be rebuilt.”
